Writers Brian Cooke and Johnnie Mortimer were inspired to create Man About The House after noticing increasing numbers of advertisements in the London press for flatmates of either gender - until the early 1970s it was usual for flatsharing households to be all male or all female.

A loudmouth Liverpudlian is holding sway in the pub, annd insults Chrissy. Robin attempts to protest but is made to back down. George, on the other hand, wins the man's respect for standing up to him over a spilled drink. Robin decides that he will learn self defence and take the man on the next time he sees him.
