Nov 18, 2014 · Great stoves. The XGK is the latest version that evolved from the Model 9. No idea why they were called model 9, it was the first stove that MSR made. The original idea was a reliable, hot burning stove for melting snow and ice for mountaineering. The MSR Model 9 through XGK has certainly done well at burning hot!

Nov 25, 2020 · Yup the current XGK (expedition) is a far cry from the original. The Coleman multi-fuel (Gas/white gas///Kero/JP8) Mod 550B is a nicer stove in so many ways. other than size weight. Ease of use, ease to light, can simmer and so on. But when it comes to bulk melting of snow (my main use for the XGK) it is hard to beat.

Nov 8, 2016 · If fact, I carry a whole second pump assembly as a backup when using one of my MSR stoves. They're barely more expensive than the "service kit." BTW, if you don't have any silicon grease yet, you should pick up a tube. Mine cost around $2.50 for a 1.5oz (that's a lot) tube of AGS Sil-Glyde.

It's still running although the original pump has been replace. This pic was taken after a spa treatment at the factory...that's why the flame diffuser is bright and shiny.

I saw this on a Google ad, they know me too well. REI was the only place I saw them available. I tried it with an MSR Pocket Rocket Deluxe and a GSI Glacier stove.
