In addition to lake elevation, displayed data also include lake area, and maximum & mean depth, as well as town & county. Only lakes greater than 10 acres surface area (the so-called “Great Ponds”) are shown in this map.

All lakes and ponds provide critical habitat for other living creatures – aquatic macroinvertebrates, plankton, fish, wildlife and vegetation – and all need protection, so that clean fresh water continues to be one of Maine’s premier natural resources.
