Jun 6, 2008 · Thompson rebuilt the pioneer LNER Pacific Great Northern in 1945; originally this was the new Class A1, but the rebuild was not repeated. Instead, initiated by Thompson but largely taken forward by his successor Arthur Peppercorn, Great Northern was designated Class A1/1, and a new class of Peppercorn A1s ordered.

Jun 6, 2008 · The first London and North Eastern Railway (LNER) Class A2 was a class of 4-6-2 steam locomotive designed by Vincent Raven for the North Eastern Railway (as NER class 4.6.2). Two were built by the NER in 1922 before the grouping and another three by the LNER in 1924. Their LNER numbers were 2400–2404.

De-streamlined A4's - National Preservation
Oct 30, 2017 · There were however rumblings from the LNER board about streamlining when Thompson and then Peppercorn took over. I had always been led to believe Thompson wanted the A1/1 streamlined, and the LNER board prevented him from doing this - however in my research, it turns out Thompson wanted to keep the A1/1 more conventional looking.
