The little Jeep CJ5 emerged from the proven ruggedness of the earlier Military Jeeps of World War II through the post-Korean War era. In 1955 Willys-Overland had already been bought out by Kaiser Industries (1953) although Kaiser continued to call the Universal vehicles "Willys" with the dealerships known as Kaiser-Willys...the CJ5 was born.

Who was Eugene the Jeep?
A little Jeep history indicates that around 1936 (about 4 years prior to the first ever Jeep prototype) a comic strip by Elzie Segar, which featured the Thimble Theater characters Popeye and Olive Oyl, also added a new unique character to the comic series. This new character had only one line in the series which was the word "jeep".

This could explain the Jeep I bought, that the second owner said came from a military auction in Georgia. It was sold as a CJ-5 (1955) and I bought it on that word. Now I find it's an m38A-1 probably a 1952 with a low serial number.
