If the game is available on both I always choose GoG because of the lack of DRM. This way I never have to worry about not being able to play the game because a server or my internet is not working. Exactly. Every time you buy a game on GOG instead of obtaining it for free (unless it is actually being given out for free e.g. Epic store) that's a win for DRM-free gaming. Whenever game prices are the same on Steam and GOG I always choose the GOG version, mainly because of the lack of DRM and it's good to know that is always an option.
