The Climatron® is the first geodesic dome to be used as a conservatory, incorporating the principles of R. Buckminster Fuller, inventor of the geodesic system. It opened to the public on October 1, 1960.

The Climatron is a greenhouse enclosed in a geodesic dome that is part of the Missouri Botanical Garden in St. Louis. Initiated by then Garden director Frits W. Went, the dome is the world's first completely air-conditioned greenhouse and the first geodesic dome to be enclosed in rigid Plexiglass (Perspex) panels.

The Climatron is an R. Buckminster Fuller-designed geodesic dome filled with around 2,800 plants–1,400 different tropical species. Average humidity is 85%, and temperatures range from 65 degrees at night to 85 degrees (F) during the day.

In 1960, the Missouri Botanical Garden opened a groundbreaking new attraction: a domed conservatory seemingly defying gravity, packed edge to edge with orchids, palms, and other tropical plants. Because of its state-of-the-art climate-control system, the structure was coined the Climatron®, a combination of the Greek words for climate and machine.
