MRE Menus - MRE Info
U.S. Military MRE menus have changed greatly over the past 35 years. Since MRE XIII (1993 Date-of-Pack), 70 new items have been approved as MRE improvements. Fourteen of the least acceptable items were replaced, and the number of menus was increased from 12 to 24.

MRE Shelf Life - MRE Info
Officially, how long MREs last depends on how long and at what temperatures they are stored. At a minimum, they should last 1 month when stored at 120 degrees Fahrenheit (49 degrees Celsius). Or they could last 5 years at 50 °F (10 °C).
Buying MREs - MRE Info
Someone in the military: if you know someone active in the military, there’s a chance they can get some MREs for you. Full-time military personnel and part-time reservists/National Guard often get these during training/field exercises.

Humanitarian Daily Ration (HDRs) - MRE Info
HDRs are a spin-off of MREs. They were developed as a means of feeding large populations of displaced persons or refugees under emergency conditions. A single HDR is designed to provide a full day’s sustenance to a moderately malnourished individual (as opposed to MREs, where you need three per day to feed a soldier in the field).
