  1. A Vent Hood works in concert with a blower system to pull smoke, odors, grease, and other particles out of the air you breathe while cooking and ejects it safely outside of the home.

In a ducted range hood, the air processed by the range hood vents elsewhere (typically outside) via a duct system. This ductwork can be placed in the ceiling, walls or floor depending on your home. A ductless range hood, also known as a recirculation or recirculating system, will vent air back into the kitchen after filtration.

A ducted range hood redirects air through a system of pipes to the outside, while a ductless or recirculating range hood simply filters the air and releases it back into the kitchen. While a ducted stove top vent is more effective in getting rid of hot air and cooking smells, it is also more complicated to install than a ductless model.

In addition to whisking away unwanted odors, vent hoods remove moisture and grease, as well as carbon monoxide, nitrogen dioxide, and other pollutants that cooking can release into the air.
