May 20, 2012 · Footage at the beginning of the film suggest that Wadiya is located approximately where Eritrea is, and at one point Admiral-General Aladeen states that he’s not an Arab. Baron Cohen has stated he based his character on Muammar Gaddafi. I don’t think Wadiya, however, is supposed to represent any particular nation. It’s merely a comic device.

The faux Kufic in the center when flipped horizontally spells out "Isla" in Latin letters, the name of Sacha Baron Cohen's wife. Aside from that, the symbolism is anybody's guess.

Jan 15, 2023 · Wadiya is literally Eritrea, which fits since i've seen people refer to Eritrea as "Africa's North Korea". Also, Wadiya's flag looks absolutely freaking awesome. I wonder what the fine folks of r/vexillology would think about it.

The Dictator - Wadiya. Of all the maps I've ever seen, this is the most Aladeen. Absolutely? The choice of color is very Aladeen, as is the detailing. Though some parts are a bit Aladeen, such as the compression of the map. Still, overall, one of the Aladeen maps of all time!
