  1. Sapele vs Mahogany as tonewood? - The Acoustic Guitar Forum

Dec 21, 2018 · Mahogany has been used as a tonewood for a long time but Sapele more recently. Checking “The Wood Database”, I found out that Sapele is a harder wood than Hog, though not necessarily better sounding. As Sapele is more readily available, its price tend to be cheaper than Hog. What are your thought on Sapele vs Hog as tonewood?

  2. Is Sapele inferior to Mahogany? - The Acoustic Guitar Forum

Jan 24, 2020 · I have played Sapele and Mahogany guitars side by side (same model, same builder). The Sapele was very slightly brighter sounding. The difference was very subtle. Sapele is not inferior. In fact, due to availability, most Sapele on the market is superior to mahogany in terms of straightness, stiffness, etc.

  3. Sapele vs. Mahogany sides and back - The Acoustic Guitar Forum

Oct 25, 2016 · I owned an Epi Masterbilt AJ500M which was listed as having "mahogany" back and sides but was in reality sapele. Sapele is a fine tonewood, and very similar to mahogany. In the case of the the Martin vs the Epi I suggest you go for the one that you like best regardless of whether it's mahogany or sapele. _____

  4. Sapele vs. Mahogany - The Acoustic Guitar Forum

Jul 26, 2016 · Sapele vs. Mahogany The guitar I have owned the longest (but probably play the least these days) is a Taylor 314 from the early 2000's in Sapele. I went through a few guitars back in the day, but this was one that I kept through thick and thin.

  5. Taylor GS Mini: Mahogany vs. Sapele - Acoustic Guitar Forum

Dec 2, 2015 · The GS Mini has a solid sitka spruce top and a layered sapele body. The GS Mini M has a solid mahogany top and a layered sapele body. So, really, you're looking at sitka spruce vs mahogany. To me, the Mini M sounds much warmer and has a bit of a deeper tone. I much prefer it to the standard GS Mini.

  6. Sapele vs Mahogany Backs - The Acoustic Guitar Forum

Nov 27, 2024 · Sapele vs Mahogany Backs I have two very different guitars, one with each B&S, both Taylors. Sapele is a 355 Jumbo 12 string with a Sitka top. Mahogany is a 512ce L10 Grand Concert (All solid mahogany B,S, & Neck). My 355 is a treasure. Wonderful sound, no electronics, bought new well over 20 years ago.

  7. Sapele vs Mahogany as tonewood? - The Acoustic Guitar Forum

Dec 27, 2018 · Actual genuine mahogany is expensive and not super easy to get compared to other "mahogany". I work for one of the biggest hardwood companies in the country and we stock Khaya (african mahogany), Okoume and Sapele. We get other things in the mahogany category, but those are the 3 dominant species coming into the USA lumber market.

  8. Mahogany vs Sapele vs Cocobolo real life stories - The Acoustic …

May 16, 2022 · Some manufacturers use Mahogany and Sapele interchangeably. Sapele seems to have figure more consistently, but that's looks. Cocobolo is different. It is a true rosewood and will sound that way. Usually quite beautiful, it often comes with an enhanced price tag. And it will be heavier with a different sound.

  9. Sapele vs Mahogany - The Acoustic Guitar Forum

Nov 30, 2012 · Really nice Sapele is much better (in my humble opinion) as a lot of the mediocre Honduran Mahogany today. Especially for necks. Still given the choice of good Honduran over good Sapele hands down I'd pick good old Big Leaf Mahogany. To me Sapele is "The next best thing to being there." _____

  10. Sapele vs Mahogany as tonewood? - The Acoustic Guitar Forum

Dec 22, 2018 · As for the sound of sapele when compared directly to Honduran mahogany, my experiences are similar to AZLiberty’s. It seems to be slightly harder and denser than most mahogany in common use these days, and often has a bit more treble response and possibly a touch more projection.
