If you have an older iPod running iOS 12, it's probably a 6th Generation iPod Touch, and cannot be updated as it lacks the hardware, RAM and CPU, to run anything newer.

Jul 14, 2016 · I have a 7th generation ipod nano that is about 3 and a half years ago and now it wont charge. Checked all the cables i have and they all charge an Ipad i have. Also checked to see if it would charge through a wall socket or computer. All no luck. My last resort was to restore the ipod which once again didn't change anything.
