Aug 5, 2010 · David, I have a 3' Werner step ladder than I bought new with these rail shields (below pic) installed.....the ladder is a bear to carry around....I know it's only 3' but outweighs 6 footers and better...but rock solid. Maybe worth the effort since they are manufacturer specific etc.....and keep the old ladder going for a bit longer. Charlie

Jul 13, 2006 · I replaced the center rivet of the brace on my 10 foot ladder with a 5/16 bolt and a locking nut. I would not replace one of the rivets at the frame of the ladder due to it being fiberglass. One of the worst things that can be done with a fiberglass ladder is to leave it exposed to the elements such as sun.

It's amazing that no one doesn't make a "residential" pull down assembly that can be raated for garage areas.

Sep 14, 2010 · Anchor a straight run ladder to the arrestors with a bit of galvy chain and screw-gate links or carabiners. Put some neoprene pads in spots along the length of the rails and just rest the ladder on the roof. Galvy steel custom, or half of an aluminum step ladder non-custom. If in wind terrirory, you might need to weight the aluminum ladder.

The casing will serve as the supports. I lay my nail gun on top of the ladder. I pick up the unit. Hoist it over my head. Take the first step up the ladder.

I made ladder forms with curved plates cut from doubled 3/4 plywood. I cut the plywood using a trammel set-up on the bandsaw in the shop and then glued and nail the segments together on a pattern drawn on my shop floor.

I guess it served me right.
