Osteoporosis

Very common

A condition when bone strength weakens and is susceptible to fracture. It usually affects hip, wrist or spine.

Symptoms may include:

• Bone fracture can be first sign or symptom
• Repeated spine fracture can lead to lower back pain
• Hip fracture can occur as slip and fall accidents

Sciatica

Very common

A severe pain that radiates from the back into the hip and outer side of the leg caused by compression of the sciatic nerve.

Symptoms may include:

• Lower back pain
• Weakness, pain, numbness or difficulty while moving the leg
• Pain that is worse when sitting

Herniated disc

A condition which results from rupture of the disc between the bones of the spine and the soft inner portion of the disc (nucleus) protrudes outside through the hard outer ring (annulus). This causes pain when a nerve is compressed.

Spinal stenosis

Very common

A condition where spinal column narrows and compresses the spinal cord.

Symptoms may include:

• Tingling or numbness in legs or arms
• Stiffness and severe back pain
• Difficulty in walking and standing for long time

Scoliosis

Very common

A condition characterized by sideways curvature of the spine or back bone, often noted during growth spurt just before a child attains puberty.

Symptoms may include:

• Back pain
• Leaning while standing
• Uneven hips, waist, or shoulders

Obesity

Very common

A condition characterized by abnormal or excessive fat accumulation.

Symptoms may include:

• Above average body weight
• Sleep apnea
• Back pain
