There is no aparent change and when I try to save the workbook I get the 'This file is locked. Try the command later.' message.

I go to Review > Share Workbook, then uncheck the 'Allow multiple users...' checkbox. I get the prompt asking whether I want to make the workbook exclusive, and click Yes.
