In the case of my Yaesu ham radios, "tone" is used when you want to transmit a CTCSS tone in order to access a repeater. "Tone squelch" is used to transmit a CTCSS tone, as well as have the tone also used on the receive (repeater output) frequency as well.

Apr 3, 2016 · DPL is a Motorola term meaning Digital Private Line. It equates to DTCS (Digital Tone Code Squelch) in Chirp. I'm not sure about the 'CSS 311' 311 is a DTCS code.. As far as I know, tone squelches only go to 254 Hz.

Nov 15, 2015 · Motorolas " privacy codes" are a form of CTCSS tone codes. Try entering channel 1 on FRS frequency into a modern scanner. Talk on channel 1 and change only the privacy code. You will notice too the tone code as well will change for each privacy code. So, yes there is a tone code format for FRS.

Aug 6, 2018 · Ignoring DCS for the time being, the difference between tone and tone squelch is that the tone is used to access the repeater whereas tone squelch is what is used on receive to control what you hear. I think you have the idea, but using the software will save a lot of keystrokes. The FTM-400 has a lot of features that go way beyond CTCSS.

Mar 4, 2020. #2. You'll need to disable tsql (set it to tone) on RX until you figure out the correct tone. Keep in mind there might not be one emitted by the repeater. Ask some of the other operators on that repeater how they have it programmed. If that doesn't work I would monitor with my SDS100, if there is a code, it will tell me what it is.

May 6, 2019 · CTCSS is often called tone or tone squelch or PL, which is a Motorola trademark, etc. These are used for repeater access in the US and the tones are not audible in your speaker when properly implemented. On the other hand many European repeaters use an audible tone burst for access and 1750Hz is a common tone frequency.
