Apr 10, 2024 · Once pressed into service, the StuG III proved to be an excellent infantry support vehicle. It featured a low silhouette, thick frontal armor (it was the best-protected German vehicle in the early stages of the war), and effective armament. The armament, in particular, consisted of a short barrel 7.5 cm gun.

This self-propelled assault gun Sturmgeschütz III Ausführung G was armed with 75 mm StuK 40 L/48 gun. Ausf.G was one of the last modifications, but the most numerous: 7800 SPG in total since December 1942 till April 1945.

The StuG III was based on the chassis of the Pz.Kpfw. III. The fixed superstructure meant that the StuG III was much cheaper and faster to produce than it’s turreted counterpart, had a lower profile and was capable of mounting a much larger and heavier caliber gun.

Apr 10, 2021 · German Sturmgeschütze (assault guns) were created as a close support weapon for infantry. They would advance alongside infantry, and would fight strongpoints and armored vehicles. Assault guns would also supplement infantry guns and anti-tank guns in defensive operations, and were considered as a possible replacement for anti-tank guns.
