May 18, 2015 · Smeagol, generally speaking, is more human (for lack of a better word), obedient, considerate, and friendly, and at least appears to be less concerned with the Ring than Gollum is; Gollum is sneaky, malicious, dangerous, unpleasant, untrustworthy, and conniving, and cares only about his "precious".

Some legends of the Jewish Golem, namely the one written by Rabbi Judah Loew ben Bezalel about the Golem that protected the Jewish Quarter of Prague, also have the creature being able to turn invisible with the aid of a necklace.

Gollum on the other hand refers to the pair as 'us' throughout. Again: SMEAGOL (cont'd) Smeagol promised. You must believe us. It was the Precious - the Precious made us to do it. Clearly if the Precious belonged to 'us', the sentence structure is wrong, even for Gollum/Smeagol. However, one final thought.

Oct 29, 2012 · Gollum and Smeagol did have an argument, and there was a clear winner from it. The film scene is trying to represent this in a more visual way. I would argue that there is justification for the scene, even if it does extend the concept somewhat.

May 21, 2015 · As Smeagol began to change physically because of his altered lifestyle, he frequently made a noise clearing his throat. This, by onomatopoeia, became 'Gollum'. Then others who saw him, not knowing his name or that he was a Hobbit began to call him Gollum.

There's a LOT of things that have already been mentioned, like Gandalf telling Frodo " Be sure he (Bilbo) took so little hurt from the evil of the and escaped in the end ...

Mar 11, 2017 · I don't remember for sure in the movies, but in the book, Gandalf tells Frodo a great deal of the tale of Smeagol while Frodo is still in the Shire. (He does this in the context of telling him about the Ring and its history, and why Frodo will have to leave for Rivendell or somewhere else.)
