Sigma Chi – and Greek-letter life everywhere – has been under attack in recent years from egregious overreaching by third-parties with attempts to control or limit the manner in which our Fraternity conducts its affairs.

One, and the main, aim and object of Sigma Chi has been, and is, to develop and train broad-minded men who can recognize the wholeness of things and who are not bound down to a contracted, eight-by-ten notion of exclusiveness.

It is known that nearly 10,000 Sigma Chi members entered World War II, of them, 738 made the ultimate sacrifice. It is documented that in all wars, from the Civil War to Operation Iraqi Freedom, there has been a total 897 Sigma Chi casualties.

Sigma Chi International Fraternity has selected 21 men for induction to the Order of Constantine, which is the highest honor for members who have committed years of exemplary service to the organization.

More than 100 years ago, Sigma Chi defined fraternity as an obligation, a necessity, an introduction, a requirement, a passport, a lesson, an influence, an opportunity, an investment, a peacemaker and a pleasure.

Throughout Sigma Chi, recruitment is a 365-day process of seeking the highest quality men on campus. The health of an organization is determined by the quality of its members. Founder Isaac M. Jordan, MIAMI (OHIO) 1857 , addressed the 15th Grand Chapter in 1884 stressing the importance of member selection.

Our virtues became part of Sigma Chi’s culture in 1909 when a major revision of our Fraternity’s education was adopted by the Grand Chapter. After 54 years of existence, the timing felt appropriate to pay tribute to our Founders.

Sigma Chi leadership, as well as leaders from other Greek-letter organizations, is on Capitol Hill this week to engage with Congress on the critical issues facing our organizations. Some pieces of legislation before Congress are aimed at preserving the fraternal system for generations to come.
