I think it's safe to say that it's Forge's successor. Fabric was created around the time 1.14 was released, mainly because Forge was taking a really long time to update.

The shader pack button should be under video settings once Optifine is installed. Last time I checked, the Optifine release for 1.17 has not implemented shaders yet, so it is grayed out.

Jun 10, 2024 · It of course comes with Sodium+Iris which are performance and shaders. (Just look at what mods the pack has to add to yours) Iris for Fabric and Oculus for Forge. You'll need Sodium (Fabric) or Embeddium (Forge) for them. Sodium is basically OptiFine, but better, performance and mod compatibility wise. Embeddium is the Forge port of it.

Dec 1, 2023 · I've tried with Forge+Optifine / Fabric + Sodium + Iris / Fabric + Optifabric but none of these combinations lets me enable shaders without loosing the LOD chunks. I've read in some cases and combinations it should be possible. What combinations of mods and shaders do I need to use Shaders and DH in Minecraft 1.20.1?
