Mar 2, 2017. #18. Seroquel or by its generic name Quetiapine is a wierd drug, I believe its given in high doses for bi polar I believe but the side effect is drowsiness. Here in Canada its often prescribed in low doses as a non addictive sleep aid.

Sep 6, 2023 · Seroquel is sometimes prescribed off label as a sleep aid but it's actually an antipsychotic. However at low doses (not sure of the exact range off the top of my head, I can try to check and edit a more specific answer in when I get home from work tonight) it primarily acts as an antihistamine, it's also still very sedating at even 25mg for most people.

When you get into the higher doses as in 200mg's+ a day then it starts to antagonize certain serotonin subreceptors and if you get to a high enough dose dopamine receptors too mostly D2.
