The main thing I got out of it is, plywood glue is weaker than anything you'll use on the joint. The screws are necessary to keep the plywood, itself, from separating.

Sep 18, 2016 · Using wood glue certainly works, but if the screw is steel, the moisture in the glue can cause the screw to rust. If the hole is really stripped out, the slivers of wood approach Steve mentioned is the next best answer. I have occasionally drilled out the screw hole oversize and glued a matching piece of wood in the hole.

Drawer bottom glued/screw to sides disadvantages?
May 14, 2009 · Hardboard does not work well for wide drawers and doesn't glue well. Usually I cut the slots and glue it in, but once I built a desk center drawer that was about 30” wide. I wanted room for an arm chair to fit under it, so I glued and nailed a 1/4” piece of plywood flush with the bottom and used drawer slides.

One trick is to drill a short depth of a larger hole on the edge before you drill a pilot hole. So, drill a 7/32 hole 3/8" deep where you want your screw, then drill your pilot hole.

But glue and nails would normally be strong enough for a typical cabinet. But since this is a saw stand and isn't treated as nice as a normal cabinet, I'd go ahead and screw it together.

Dec 11, 2011 · An easy joint would be to rabbet the top of the standing 2x4, 3/4" deep by 3 1/2". Then, butt the back 2x4 to the standing 2x4 (leg). Then rabbet the side 2x4, 2" deep, by 3 1/2". When assembling with glue (and clamps), the side 2x4 creates the front of the step for the back 2x4. No pocket screws.

For holes that will not be used and seen, there are several stick (or pencil) types of putty/filler. Minwax® has a variety in different colors called Blend-Fil ® . They are individually packaged and numbered as to color.
