WEBMay 10, 2018 · Back in 2005 when I got serious about knives they were all good old school and reliable stainless steels like 154CM, ATS-34, VG-10 and N690. Then came CPM-S30V "super steel" which was one of the first widely-available powdered stainless steels and my first knife with it was/is the Spyderco Military from September 2005 which I still have.

WEBOct 7, 2023 · If going stainless, I will almost always choose s90v over the other two -- but I use diamond sharpening stones. The stainless properties of s90v and s30v are roughly the same, but the s90v holds a working edge noticeably longer. I prefer s45vn to s30v, but only because s45vn is significantly more stainless than s30v.

WEBJun 7, 2017 · S30v is pretty decent. It loses its real fine cutting ability somewhat quickly but it'll maintain a rough shaving edge for awhile. VG-10 is better if you're less skilled or have less of a tolerance for working around the steel to get its full potential. osprey.

WEBOct 15, 2015 · 1. S30V is indeed much easier to acquire than CTS-XHP. And..lower cost. 3. Just Cost. S30V is still less expensive than S35VN. Plus back when S30V was realized to be the ideal "everyday" supersteel, companies like Spyderco and others bought large amounts in order to offer such an amazing steel at reasonable prices.

WEBJul 23, 2020 · I have one that's pretty old but don't know what steel it has. No, Cabelas sold a special S30V Gator with Bell & Carlson handle. Around 2008 to 2012. A lot of folks didn't like it's partial tang and chinzy cordura sheath. They were like $89.99 in 2008 and finally were closed out in 2012 on sale for $29.99.

I was surprised, that some experienced difficulty when sharpening S30V but then I use diamond stones for much of my sharpening and reading on understood that to be a factor. Makes sense. I like CruWear and M4 even better than S30V but if circumstances forced me to only have S30V in a folder, Id have no problem with that.
Where does SPY27 Steel sits among the current Steel lines?

Second of all keep a very light touch on the stones after you re-profile and get a bur on each side light strokes on each side as in weight of the knife light strokes.
