Jun 6, 2002 · The picture is a cut off wheel on a drill press. It is from yet another task possible with a drill press. I would assume a smaller 3/8" drill press would suffer quicker than a big beefy 1/2" floor standing industrial one. End mills fit in a chuck providing the chuck capacity can handle the diameter of the end mill cutter.

2,150. Aug 5, 2013. #6. A drill press does not have the correct bearings for side loading (milling). The drill chuck is a taper fit in the drill press. Side load the chuck and it will exit the press while spinning at high rpm. This could badly hurt you. Chuck.

Apr 22, 2004 · I wouldn't think you'd need the biggest floor model drill press for making knives. Most of what we do is generally 1/2" diameter or less, so HP is not a big issue. Most are 1/2 hp or larger. What ever you buy, go to enco and buy a Rohm keyless chuck. Buy it when it's on sale, they seem to always have them on sale.

I have one drill press fool me. It turns out the nut holding the pulley on needed tightening. It's a left hand nut. Last edited: Jul 23, 2015.

Feb 26, 2003 · I read a review a couple years ago where the Grizzly 12" bench drill press won a roundup over jet, powermatic, and delta. The Harbor Freight brand, "central machinery" is the same animal. Grizzly no longer carries this. I can truthfully say that I have this at my shop at work and this press is almost great when equipped with a new keyless chuck.

May 3, 2002 · If your successful w/one hole then screw the clip on w/just the one hole. Pivot the clip into the angle you want. And use the rest of the screw holes on the clip as a template for drilling your next hole and so on. Dissassembling the knife before hand and working only on the appropriate handle will probably help too.

WEN Variable Speed Drill Press and chuck question?
Aug 13, 2002 · I would stay away from those budget VS drill presses. I have seen several with problems with the cast zinc pulleys and the spring system coming all apart, and another that the motor failed. You are better to buy a good sturdy multi-speed floor model press with a keyless chuck, and change the motor to a 3/4 HP to 1 HP 3 phase motor.

Oct 10, 2002 · Set your drill for the slowest setting. Clamp your work, get new bits, use cutting fluid. I have a pump oilcan filled with tapmatic that I use when drilling. Control the drill with one hand and squirt the cutting fluid with the other. I keep a chip pan underneath the drill to catch cutting fluid runoff and shavings.
