RAID 10/1+0 will give you the highest protection against disk failure and the fastest recovery time. RAID 5 will give you the most disk space and the fastest read performance (but the slowest write performance). See my comment above - it depends on your hardware.

Its a hardware issue with the raid controller, just replace it.
