Read closely and learn! The PL-50 is an early 70's unit that was built to last forever. Does it have it's quirks? Well, yes. But a dialed in unit with a working auto return is a really, really nice table. Add better feet from another Pioneer (I used a 55x), and you've got a great table.

Simplicity and reliability are the keywords when it comes to Pioneer PL-12D. Not much can go wrong – and normally doesn’t. PL-12D is a really good choice for one who has (re)discovered music on vinyl or needs a second turntable/set-up. And it could work well as a primary turntable for a mid-priced set-up also.

Yes, the Pioneer PL-7 is a solid basic automatic turntable with a nice arm and a smooth neutral sound that stays out of the way of the music. I actually prefer the PL-518x which is older, heavier, more powerful with more of a solid rock sound. So I can understand how this neutral, polite table could be seen as a step down. I do not.

Pioneer PL-120. by pjp196727. Well constructed entry-level Japanese made turntable. Fitted with their proprietary Low Mass High Tracking Ability tonearm (fitted to their higher level PL series turntables) which responds well to high compliance cartridge upgrades. The cartridge is an Audio-Technica AT3400 fitted with a conical stylus.

The closest you can get is about 17 - 17.5 mm, with the stylus assembly positioned at the back of the headshell slots. Going by ear, I am satisfied with the result, but if you want to nail 15.5 mm, you'll need to mount a cartridge in the Pioneer headshell that comes with the turntable. by novy07.
