Phonemic analysis is the process of analyzing a spoken language to figure out what its phonemes are, what the allophones are of those phonemes, and what each allophone’s distribution is. The resulting overall analysis is called a phonemicization of the language.
How to do phonemic analysis: Check for a minimal pair Ł i.e. a pair of words, with distinct meaning, identical except for the phonetic difference in question. Ł If you find a minimal pair , then the phonetic difference in question is contrastive. The 2 sounds are separate phonemes. No rule needed, you're done. Ł If no minimal pair, continue.
