Book an educational session with the Friends of Petrie Island to share the wonders of wetlands and the natural world with your students. Once the spring freshet is over and the Island is accessible, we will be offering tours and presentations which are available in English or French.

The Friends of Petrie Island is a group of volunteers whose mandate is to protect and share the natural aspects of Petrie Island. The beach area is managed by the City of Ottawa. Each summer we hire students who offer interpretive programs and guided tours to highlight the unique aspects of Petrie Island.

The Friends of Petrie Island sponsor a series of walks and outdoor talks on various aspects of the nature and history of Petrie. Insights and information are provided by local experts on a variety of topics of interest, including plants, ecology, wildlife and the Island’s past uses.

Welcome to Petrie Island. Park Rules apply year round, including that dogs are not permitted anywhere on the Island. These rules protect the flora and fauna of Petrie Island and add to our visitors’ enjoyment.

Petrie Island has two main beaches on the Ottawa River: River Beach and East Beach. There is also a smaller beach for children near the picnic area. The beaches are operated by the City of Ottawa.

It is a City of Ottawa park made up of conservation and picnic areas which are managed by volunteers with The Friends of Petrie Island, as well as sandy beaches and parking, that are operated by the City of Ottawa.
