Paphiopedilum emersonii, described in 1982, is a species of orchid named after American orchid enthusiast Emerson 'Doc' Charles. The plant blooms from late spring to early summer with one to two flowers per an infloresensce. The plant size is small when compared to other Paphiopedilums.

Paph emersonii belongs to the parvisepalum (parvi) section of paphs, exhibiting the characteristic inflated balloon like pouch. Reputed to be a slow grower and a recalcitrant bloomer, this plant bloomed in the spring in a 3" pot on a single growth with a single flowered, pubescent inflorescence that has a papery, elliptic bract.

Dec 5, 2006 · Among the first plants to appear in cultivation were a batch exported from China through Honk Kong to Japan and the USA. Also, plants were brought to Europe by Henry Azadehdel. So far, I haven't found any detailed information on the timing of all the events surrounding this species' introduction.

Dec 15, 2024 · It's an incredible flower and quite an achievement to bloom one! Super fascinating species and an incredible lip. This is a particularly colorful cultivar. Glad to hear it is also fragrant.

IDENTIFY PAPHIOPEDILUM EMERSONII ORCHID PLANT. Paphiopedilum emersonii occurs in few localities in Viet Nam and southern China. It grows in primary, broad-leaved, evergreen, closed forests, shady cliffs and crevices of steep rocks in thickets in limestone areas at elevations of 460 to 750 meters.

These plants grow extremely slowly - regardless of whether this Paphio is cultivated in a temperate or warm area. The site has reported an extreme drought in November/December.
