  1. Your surgeon will fix the small hole between the upper heart chambers. A small surgical patch might be used to do so. Once the repair is done, the robotic tools, camera, and heart-lung machine will be removed. The small incisions on your chest will be closed. A bandage will then be applied.

    Percutaneous closure of the PFO in patients with cryptogenic stroke has been undertaken for a number of years, and a number of purpose-specific septal occluders have been marketed. Recent randomised control trials have demonstrated that closure of PFO in patients with cryptogenic stroke is associated with reduced rates of recurrent stroke.
