Sep 12, 2024 · New CDC population data from 2023 show that in 23 states more than one in three adults (35%) has obesity. Before 2013, no state had an adult obesity prevalence at or above 35%. Currently, at least one in five adults (20%) in each U.S. state is living with obesity.

Obesity prevalence was highest in adults ages 40–59 compared with other age groups and was lowest in adults with a bachelor’s degree or more compared with those with less education. The prevalence of severe obesity was 9.4%. Severe obesity prevalence was higher in women than men for each age group.
