Basically you need to replace \x00 characters with regular expressions. Please note, you shuold try "\x00", "\00", or "\0". For me, \x00 and \00 did not work. I needed to use \0 for the replace character. @JohnAugust thank you so much for this. \x00 kept finding 'normal' spaces as well as the NUL characters.

Aug 7, 2012 · Seems like a bug-like feature. :-) If your batch file is simple enough, you could get around this by calling your batch file with 2>nul(i.e., foo.cmd 2>nul). Alternately, you could put just that line in a batch file of its own (say, setfirstline.cmd) and use call setfirstline.cmd 2>nulfrom a "parent" batch file. Hacky, but functional.
