WEBAug 24, 2012 · The difference between the two is size, the 10-20 is much smaller, about 1 1/2 inch diameter. Apparently using a10-50 plug on a 30 amp breaker was legal and common for dryers. I would check the wire gauge to determine what amperage you should draw. They may have put in just large enough wire to run the dryer on that 30 amp circuit.

WEBApr 20, 2021 · A 10-50 does not have a ground, only a neutral. You can test your receptacle and dog bone with a basic electric meter. Each receptacle should have two 120v sides and one 240 side. If the wall mounted 10-50 does not have any 120v sides, it is miswired. A welder could use a 10-50 and not know the neutral was disconnected.

Easy to do, or stop by and borrow mine while you are headed to Calistoga. Plug vehicle connector into 14-50, plug 10-50 into welder outlet, dial down to 24 amps, and go.

WEBFeb 18, 2017 · Tesla does not make a NEMA 10-50 adapter, but there are third party ones. The usual warnings regarding using a 4-wire to 3-wire adapter apply, of course. Also be sure that the wiring will actually support a continuous 40A load. With this said, I use a 10-30 to 14-50 adapter from the same supplier without any issues. R.

Portable use: If you want to use the NEMA 10-30 receptacle at your parents', you can wire up a cable that has the NEMA 10-30P on one end and NEMA 14-50R on the other end.
