Nankin Township is a former township of Wayne County in the U.S. state of Michigan. It was bordered on the north by Joy Road, the east by Inkster Road, the south by Van Born Road, and the west by Hannan Road.

In 1829, Nankin Township or simply Nankin, was created from a split of Bucklin Township. Named after Nanking, China, Nankin's border were Joy Road to the north, Van Born Road to the south, Hannan Road to the west and Inkster Road to the east.

The Westland Historic Village Park (WHVP) promotes the history of Nankin Township, the City of Westland, and the history of the Wayne County General Hospital and Eloise Complex. WHVP has five historic buildings that are significant to the history of Westland, however only three of the buildings are open at this time.

Nankin Township Landfill is a former dump site located in Westland, near the intersection of Cowan Road and Warren Road (behind Wilderness Park Apartments, 7280 Wilderness Park Drive). This property operated as the Nankin Township Landfill from approximately 1957 to approximately 1962.

Oct 9, 2024 · Nankin Township, Michigan, is a former township of Wayne County in the U.S. state of Michigan. Three Algonquin tribes Potawatomi, Ojibwa, and Ottawa met each year on the middle fork of the Rouge River at the site of Nankin Mills to establish hunting territories.

Nankin was a growing township by the time the mill was operational and local farmers who were growing grain had need of the mill’s services. A thriving community later called Pike’s Peak grew up around the Nankin Mills.
