.035 requires a hotter spark to jump the bigger distance and a good mag delivers a much hotter spark than the 6 volt battery, if it is actually a good mag. Some mags will produce 36 volts. The .035 is also fine for distributors and a TrueFire system, among others.

Fouling plugs at either gap is not a plug issue. The X plugs are the right heat range so the issue is why is there so much oil. You could try a higher heat range plug but the real solution lies in keeping that much oil from getting to the plugs in the first place.

Jul 16, 2018 · My experience is with Model T's and Model A's, whose plug gaps are 0.025" and 0.035", respectively. The compression ratios are almost the same, so I have never understood the reason for almost 1/3 difference in spark plug gaps.
