So I started searching for this curious-looking keyboard, and it all seemed too good to be true.
I now understand the craze about IBM model M keyboards.
Aug 13, 2018 · It's really subjective. I've tried a gray badge Model M (ca. 1987), a blue badge Model M (ca. 1995), and two Unicomps (2014 and 2016) and the Unicomps feel lighter and crisper, but the Model Ms have a bigger tactile bump and have more heft. Personally, I like the Unicomps more.

Of course with Unicomp, you can easily get an affordable and USB-ready keyboard. For Model Fs, you can get a USB-ready keyboard via Model F Labs but it's not as cheap and the project will eventually end.

Jun 28, 2018 · Luckily, you can get a Model M for a reasonable price to compare. My son gifted me with a good old Model M and he paid 35 bucks. My box navies cost 50 cents a switch. I like heavier switches, and the Model M is very satisfying in that department, with a very nice feedback and feel. I like Model M's over F's and also the (heresy) Beam Springs.
