Mike the Tiger is the mascot of Louisiana State University (LSU) in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and serves as the graphic image of LSU sports. Mike is the name of both the live and costumed mascots. By tradition the tiger is a live Bengal tiger, although the current mascot and his two immediate predecessors are mixed-breeds.

His life span of twenty years, nine months, and eighteen days is considered extremely long for a captive tiger. Mike V was born October 19, 1989, and came to LSU when he was four months old. Mike V was donated to LSU by Dr. Thomas and Caroline Atchison of the Animal Zoological Park in Moulton, Ala.

Mike VII, the Tiger - Mascot Hall of Fame
LSU’s first live tiger mascot, Mike I, arrived on campus on October 21, 1936. While the first three tigers were purchased from zoos, Mikes IV, V, VI, and VII were donated to LSU by sanctuaries and rescue facilities. LSU is dedicated to providing a good home for a tiger that needs one.
