Dec 8, 2018 · Trying a 3-day blackout. And have a microscope on the way. Nitrates have now been consistent around 20ppm but PO4 has dropped to .03. I changed my skimmer to only run 12 hours per day in the hopes of bumping up PO4 a bit. However, I had to blow the rocks off again this morning as they are getting blanketed with this stuff.

Jan 28, 2019 · Here’s a microscope picture of cyano and dino from my tank a few months back. The cyano is the red filament glob. Dino are the single called organisms you see. I would highly recommend against dosing anything to kill the cyano off if you happen to have both. Cyano is much easier to tame than dino as I’m finding out.

Nov 30, 2021 · The thing to note in this experiment is that I do 100% medium change (0.2 L) every two days. Pretty much nothing becomes depleted. And just like when setting up a new aquarium, the glass became covered with diatoms in a few days, a nice golden-brown film. Under the microscope, the diatoms were packed together like a can of sardines.

Jan 19, 2020 · take the rare path: rip clean your system, make it 0% mass, then treat with fluc as a preventative on the 0% mass condition, it won't spurn dinos then. it'll be a preventative, not the remover + rot in system. merely knowing that fluc targets this stuff I thought was a handy find, I didn't know that.

There were a bunch of these cells, which look awfully similar to the wikipedia image for chrysophytes. At the time, we didn't know what we were looking at. Also in the sample were copious amounts of these long clear filaments.
