Sep 25, 2016 · I sprayed these pieces from the oil drain pan off with brake cleaner. It is definitely metal. Im guessing it’s aluminum because it is pretty brittle, but I’m just guessing. Sep 23, 2013 · Maybe the engine was rebuilt by another shop. I cant be sure. The service adviser told me a bushing of some sort fell into the engine. Metal shavings ended up in the oil pan, eventually clogging up the oil pickup. Starving (his word) the engine of oil. When the vehicle was driven, the oil light came on intermittently.

Aug 19, 2014 · To be honest, in all my years of messing around with cars, I’ve never actually seen metal shavings in the oil. Now granted, I have torn part a many an engine after a catastrophic failure, that had all sorts of metal debris in the pan.

Oct 10, 2018 · I asked them to prove that there were metal shavings in the oil before they found them on the 2nd visit (10/3). They said that they drop the oil in a large collector for a regular oil change and cannot prove that there were metal shavings in the 9/29 oil change.

Aug 19, 2014 · Lacking that and depending on the amount of metal (you need to cut the oil filter open to know) I’d suspect a dirty engine from the factory – one that didn’t get all the shavings cleaned out.
