Feb 22, 2013 · A screw without a flattened shaft has much higher contact force but very small area. You are relying on the pinching of the screw which can be a bit of hit and miss. While mounting the collet the shaft has to be as smooth as possible and a bit of oil will actually make it slide up and grip better.

A metric M2.2x.45 screw appears to be exactly the same as a SAE 2-56, both thread smoothly into my screw checker for Metric screws in the M2.2x.45 hole, and both thread smoothly into the 2-56 hole on the SAE thread checker plate.

Oct 3, 2016 · It seems the head screws and backplate screws are 2.5mm .60 pitch (verified with pitch gauge), and the prop shaft is supposed to be #12-32 or 7/32"-32. Where on this planet am I gonna find these? It appears one head screw was replaced with a 4-40 screw, but I cannot tell if they tapped the hole for 4-40 or just put a 4-40 in it.

Sep 8, 2024 · The collet tightens via a black hex key at the nose of the spinner. This is the most likely spot you will find it stuck, if it’s the spinner stuck on the shaft. Loosen the hex bolt a turn or two. Hold the spinner or wedge a thin bit of ply between spinner & firewall if you have space. Gently tap the front bolt. Tap it harder if needed.

Haven't decided yet whether I'm going to use the rubber band wing mounting as on the full-size Sophie, or go with a bolt on arrangement.
