Dec 5, 2002 · You could use 3/4" cabinet grade hardwood plywood. It would cover the screw holes and the mdf all at once. Do not try this at home! I am a trained professional! use 2-1/2" screws and bend 'em over so they hold better. Don't use drywall screws on cabs the are brittle and will break when you try to bend 'em.

Feb 5, 1999 · MDF is quite alright to work with, it machines nicely, paints up well - if you seal first with a non-latex primer, but; it weighs a ton (have lots of help on hand to help move the finished entertainment centre {yes, we spell it differently}) and I find the corners are slightly more susceptible to damage.

For raw stock, a 4x8x5/8 sheet of mdf is around $45; a 5x10x5/8 is about $70. MDF almost requires solid carbide cutting edges, expect the carbide to last on about 1/4 as long as if used in solid wood.
