Jun 12, 2010 · Today I discovered under the kitchen sink a 12oz can of Ronsonol lighter fluid. It is a tin can similar to the 4oz Zippo can (all Ronsonol fluids have been in plastic bottles for a long time now). The price from the manufacturer on the can is $1.09 and Longs Drug Store has a sticker on it selling the can for $0.99.

So to see how well it stores lighter fluid I filled it up with 5mils of lighter fluid and stored it for 2 months. When the 2 month period was over, I wanted to see how many times I could light it for a 10 second period.

Jul 8, 2022 · That was an interesting rabbit hole, leading to hunting down MSDS (or I guess they're now called just SDS) for charcoal lighter fluid, various CAS searches, etc. Interestingly enough, the CAS 'name' for the substance that makes up 100% of kingsford charcoal lighter fluid is <drumroll please> kerosene. Also, Kingsford is owned by Clorox.

Feb 5, 2023 · "Charcoal lighter fluid" is closer to kerosene. Don't use that. Naptha as mentioned already, is "lighter fluid" or Coleman Appliance Fuel or Blazo. This is what you want to use, as the catalyst will be contaminated with other substances found in automotive gasoline.

May 19, 2020 · A zippo can dry out/evaporate in a few weeks whether you use it or not. Peanut lighters have an O-ring, allegedly will last for months between uses. It's not as good as a Zippo in the wind, but for what it is, it seems very nice. It makes fire, and is mostly impervious to temps that make a butane lighter useless.

Boo, I don't remember it working like that. 50 years ago I used lighter fluid - like bbq grill lighter fluid. This weekend's attempt I used white gas that you use in camping stoves. I soaked it a good 4 hours, probably even longer.
