Just my speculation, but maybe Legolas wouldn't have been able to shoot the Nazgûl right after Lothlórien if he had kept the shorter bow.

Though Legolas was certainly not the absolute expert of the Elves - one of the Noldor in Rivendell like Glorfindel might have held that title, though Legolas was probably an exemplar of the (lesser) Sindarin elves.

It's not a great compound bow and a pain to adjust the limbs. One of the screws lost threading so that side is a write-off. Make sure the internals are correct.
