The GPZ was originally a hot rodded version of the KZ 550. In the mid seventies Kawasaki changed it's model designation system.

Aug 4, 2013 · Re: Carbs re: 1983 KZ 550 GPz My bike sat in my garage from 1990 to 2012. Truly sad, carbs were a mess. You are correct. Under the plastic plug is the pilot jet. The pilot jet gets it fuel through the primary main jet. Gently pry the plastic plug up/out with a tiny blade screwdriver by working around the plug and prying in different places.

Oct 19, 2009 · I have just recently purchased an 82 GPZ 550 H1 and I am having trouble getting it to run properly. It feels like the engine is running on 3 cylinders instead of all 4 most of the time, but intermittently, it has great power. Surprisingly it ran better before I rebuilt the petcock. I don’t know how the vacuum lines are supposed to be run.

Feb 8, 2014 · In the USA the 81 KZ550-D1 GPz & 83 550-F1 Spectre Shaft had twin shocks & typical KZ fuel tanks, while the 82-83 550-H1/H2 GPz had unitrak suspension & the "swoopy" fuel tank. The F1/H1/H2 models had similar exhaust systems w muffler hangers welded to the mufflers, whereas the D1 had separate muffler brackets.
