Jan 27, 2009 · I have every album of Joni's, they're all worthwhile to some degree. Her mid-70s run is my favourite - Court & Spark through to Hejira - but I also have a huge soft spot for the 80s albums like Dog eat Dog and Chalk Mark In A Rain Storm (which is admittedly a better title than record, if I'm honest). Generally I think she's a bit of a genius. EG.

Aug 15, 2006 · It's a very low-key elegant album. Kiss The Flame is absolutely gorgeous, there are parts of the melody that are very Joni Mitchell Hejira-adjacent that I love. It's really something to read contemporary reviews of the album. A lot of critics were really into throwing around the word 'naive' to describe her lyrics.

Feb 11, 2021 · Meanwhile The Tortured Poets Department has become one of my favourite Taylor albums, all of it full-stop. It’s flawed but it’s the essence of Taylor’s musicianship and song craft. I think the production, although tasteful and sleek, is the weak point but the songs themselves are amongst her best.
