Nest must have got something right as Google just paid $3.2Billion last week to buy the company and it is only 3 or 4 years old (ex Apple engineers). Nest also has a new wifi enabled smoke and carbon monoxide detector.

Oct 23, 2024 · Now with the new Smart thermostats it is a much better and easier process. For years we had a Honeywell Smart thermostat and liked it. When we replaced our AC unit this year they installed the Ecobee thermostat. I like it better than the Honeywell for many reasons and it has a lot more features and is very easy to use. So yes update it.

The Nest thermostats are easier to install, that said, depending on your HVAC system, you may need the more expensive one.

We did this for 4 years until we became official snowbirds. When you leave for the summer leave your ac on 82-84. For winter 60 is good.

Then move the cable currently connecting the thermostat (old red/black) and use 5 of the wires to connect to the furnace. Keep the other cable with two wires (red/white) on Y and C connected as that feeds the outside a/c compressor.
