GFNY NYC serves as the GFNY World Championship and every May, cyclists descend onto New York City and the starting line on the world’s busiest bridge, George Washington Bridge, which is fully closed to cars for GFNY.

GFNY New York City: American gran fondo with a Belgian touch 18 Feb 2025 That the GFNY World Championships NYC (commonly known as GFNY NYC) is a gran fondo that has achieved cult status in the U.S., and certainly far beyond, is beyond question.

At dawn, GFNY cyclists take their places in their start corrals. The sunrise reveals the skyline of New York City to the south, and the picturesque and historic Hudson Valley to the north. The course takes you through the historic Palisades and up Route 9W.

Race week activities are centered around the George Washington Bridge and Fort Lee, New Jersey. The GFNY Village location is easily accessible to both New York City and the beautiful Hudson Valley. Group Rides, the Welcome Zone, Registration and Packet Pickup, NYC Bike Expo and the Bike Zone are all located in the GFNY Village.

GFNY has evolved from its historical roots as an abbreviation for "Gran Fondo New York." This transition to the four letter word “GFNY” in 2015 reflects a broadening of our scope and reach beyond a single event in New York.

GFNY race packet pickup hours are: Friday & Saturday @ 10am-6:00pm. In-person race packet pickup is mandatory. Each participant must come in person to check-in and pick up their race materials.

GFNY stands for Gran Fondo New York. “Gran Fondo” is the Italian term for “big challenge” and stems from skiing, swimming and cycling endurance races that started in the 1950s.
