Nov 10, 2002 · The grade 12 bolts are significantly more brittle, the grade 8 bolts are too brittle for some applications (not concerning car engines however). The last thing you need is the head to shatter clean off, something a vibration could possibly do over time.

Aug 9, 2013 · +1. Standard FE heads have the "8-bot" vertical pattern. Due to the necessary shape of the manifolds to fit the chassis, the GT and intermediate cars used the "14-bolt" pattern. The Cobra Jet head was the only one to use a "16-bolt" pattern. The Fel-Pro 1442 gaskets below are capable of fitting any of the patterns.

quick help please! Lower control arm removal
Jun 5, 2003 · The front bolt is kind of 'Z' shaped and wont pound out the the one toward the rear did. I took the nut off and can wiggle it around a bit, but the engine support beam that the rear bolt attaches to is in the way. I really want to get this control arm off so I can get it to the machine shop tomorrow. Any suggestions? Thanks, Geoff

Sep 8, 2003 · 12pt bolt heads will only work with 12pt sockets and wrenches. However, the heads are generally smaller, and fit in smaller places. This can be handy for head bolts where huge springs are used, and there is very little room for the bolt heads. (usually small block chevys) Sometimes cam clearance can be a problem with connecting rod bolts...

May 22, 2004 · Either way, you will need to pull the head to fix (diagnose) the problem. So, start with that first, once the head is pulled you will be able to see if the head gasket is damaged or not. Generally, you (or lets just say, I) wouldn't use pipe dope, ther are good automotive grade thread sealers, think 3M.

Jul 5, 2010 · Lubricate with copper antiseize all bolt threads and under the bolt heads. Tighten all the bolts in sequence (from the middle out) to 30 ft lbs. back them all off in sequence completely. Torque them in sequence to 20 ft lbs - going back to the first ones and redoing all of them beforegoing on to the next bolt.

Apr 7, 2008 · Remember the torque that you put on a bolt has 2 or 3 things to do; overcome friction, twist, and compress the head. With the friction taken care of (reletavily) more force is actually compressing the head than with 75ft lbs on stock bolts with oil.
