Jun 13, 2021 · It seems to me that Gaia GPS and On X Offroad basically operate in a similar fashion, offer the same services, have usable map architecture and include trip planning features. I am still exploring the differences such as access to and layering of USFS, state lands, historical and curren topo maps and how the GPS markers work.

Jul 29, 2021 · I have been using Gaia with my iPhone and Carplay to display the maps on my Jeep in dash screen., does the news imply that previously Gaia and an Android phone would not work as an app displayed on the Jeep infotainment system or is this an announcement of the addition of some specific features.

Aug 23, 2019 · I bought an iPad to specifically use for GPS and used the GAIA GPS app to find trails and dispersed camping areas not covered by Google or other services. While the GPS antennae worked with no cell service, the app could not load new map tiles without that cell connection. So I had to pre-download maps using the app for places I know I would be.

It's especially ironic that they use OpenStreetMap as their base source to derive their maps, but have now starting preventing their long time users from using OpenStreetMap as layer directly in the app. The subscription gives me hourly updates too. Feb 16, 2021 · I use Gaia GPS (paid subscription) because it is available across devices; plan on the home computer, use on the tablet in the Wrangler. Or, track on tablet and save on home computer. I have recently started using All Trails as a tool to find trails, and descriptions then download the GPX for use in Gaia GPS.

May 7, 2024 · I just got an email from Gaia letting me know they are increasing their price starting June 6, 2024. It's going from $39.99 to $59.99. Not sure how I feel about this. I do like Gaia but the app is buggy as hell and I don't know if the $20 increase is warranted but I guess the alternative is getting lost so maybe it is worth that price.
