A notary public or other officer completing this certificate verifies only the identity of the individual who signed the document to which this certificate is attached, and not the truthfulness, accuracy, or validity of that document.

A notary acknowledgment is a sworn statement by a notary public who witnesses a person sign a document. Per state law, the notary public must view government-issued photo identification to prove the signer is the authorized party.

Notary acknowledgments are common for certain types of legal documents such as power of attorney, divorce papers, court documents, and any serious legal form where the parties feel it is necessary to have the signatures be notarized.

Filing Your Notary Oath and Bond. Schedule Appointment. A Notary Public must file an Oath of Office and Bond with our office when their principal place of business is located within Fresno County. This must be done within 30 calendar days from the commencement date of the commission. This 30 day period cannot be extended.

The Secretary of State grants four-year notary public commissions to qualified persons, approves notary public education courses, authorizes notary seal manufacturers, investigates violations of notary public law and takes disciplinary action, and issues apostilles.
